Siemens Energy Weiz: Securing the Future of Energy with System Elpress
Interview by Beatrice Svala, Digital Communicator at Elpress
Interviewee: Mario Sauseng, Siemens Energy Weiz
Sales contact: Klaus Krumscheid, Elpress GmbH. Product Manager: Sofie Häggkvist.
When Elpress Team with Klaus Krumscheid, Sofie Häggkvist and I, Beatrice Svala had the opportunity to visit Siemens Energy’s facility in Weiz, Austria, we where not only impressed, we even got a little starstrucked.
“It’s a fantastic site with smiling people and what seems to be a great team feeling. But what truly captured me was the craftsmanship—the almost artistic precision—involved in making transformers. From the winding processes to the final oil filling, it was stunning from start to end. There’s a true sense of pride and passion in every part of the process.”
What makes the site even more remarkable is its setting. This large-scale production facility is located right in the heart of the small, picturesque town of Weiz. The contrast between the calm charm of the town and the high-tech energy inside the factory walls creates something truly unique.

Powering the Renewable Future
Siemens Energy Weiz plays a key role in the renewable energy sector. The factory serves all major wind turbine OEMs. The transformers built here are essential components in wind turbines, ensuring efficient and stable transmission of clean energy to the grid.
“Our main focus is renewable energy,” says Mario Sauseng. “We build transformers for wind turbines and also special industrial transformers. These products are vital to support the global shift towards cleaner energy solutions.”
The Importance of Reliable Connections
Electrical connections are at the core of every transformer’s performance.
“It’s very important to get good connections in our transformers. Elpress gives us great support and has tested all the crimp connections used in our processes,” Mario explains.
A Transition from Many Systems to One
Before implementing Elpress, Siemens Energy Weiz worked with several different connection systems.
“We had different systems before, which created complexity and additional time in some applications. That’s why we made the decision to switch to one tested system.”
Two Decades of Partnership and Trust
The relationship between Siemens Energy and Elpress is long-standing.
“We’ve been using Elpress for about two decades. The reason is simple: Elpress offers tested systems with reliable documentation, and the cooperation has always been strong.”
What sets Elpress apart?
“It’s the combination of technical excellence and the strong relationship we’ve built with the Elpress team. The tested crimp connectors give us full confidence.”

Elpress on the Production Floor
System Elpress is now used in all lead connection areas within the Weiz facility, from winding terminations to busbar interfaces.
“We have a standardized crimping procedure using Elpress crimping tables. Most of our team has completed Elpress Academy training, and new employees are trained by certified colleagues.”
Siemens Energy has also implemented effective quality assurance processes:
“We have newly implemented marking system on the insulation to track responsibility.”
Measurable Improvements and a Safer Work Environment
Since adopting System Elpress, the improvements have been clear:
“We’ve enhanced quality with the new aluminum-copper connectors. And without brazing, the work is cleaner, easier, and safer.”
In addition, the use of System Elpress supports Siemens Energy’s compliance with international standards such as IEC 61238, strengthening both safety and customer confidence.
A Forward-Thinking Collaboration
Siemens Energy continues to benefit from close cooperation with Elpress’ local representative, Klaus Krumscheid.
“The support we get from Mr. Krumscheid is excellent. Looking ahead, our goal is to standardize our system to Elpress crimping connectors.”
And as demands grow, especially in the field of renewable energy, Elpress remains a key partner in enabling scalable, safe, and smart manufacturing.
System Elpress – a system worth recommending
“A reliable crimping system means we can focus on quality, safety, and future innovation,” Mario concludes. “We recommend System Elpress to other manufacturers. Some of our other sites are already using the same system.”
At Elpress, we are proud to play a part in the energy transition, side by side with dedicated partners like Siemens Energy Weiz, where precision and purpose meet in every connection.
